“Neurodivergence shaping communication” with Jasper Armitage-Williams

This CPD session explores Deaf autistic lived experience and how neurodivergence can significantly shape communication access. Drawing on real-world examples, the session supports lipspeakers to better recognise changing access needs, avoid common communication barriers, and adapt their practice in both healthcare and professional settings. The training is practical, reflective, and focused on improving outcomes for Deaf autistic clients.

Learning outcomes:
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  • Understand how autism and deafness can intersect and impact communication differently
  • Recognise signs of overwhelm, masking, and communication breakdown
  • Adapt lip speaking approaches for neurodivergent Deaf clients
  • Identify common environmental and interaction-based barriers
  • Use practical strategies to repair communication and support regulation
  • Apply learning confidently to healthcare, group, and online setting
