Committee Roles

Our Committee is made up of a number of volunteers who dedicate their time to support colleagues and create continuous professional development (CPD) opportunities. Read more about each role and hear directly from the Committee themselves. 

Chair

  • Collate and send out paperwork for AGM (i.e. agenda, mins last meeting, accounts, nomination papers, job description for vacant posts, map of venue, programme and application forms (tear-off), chairs report (other officers reports are placed on the seats on the day).
  • Produce a Chair’s Report for the AGM.
  • Chair the conference and AGM
  • Write necessary thank you letters.

Vice Chair

  • Support the Chair with administrative duties. 
  • Liaise with the Information Officer to produce ‘News’ items for the ALAS website.
  • Co-host CPD events with the Chair as/when necessary.

Honourable Secretary

  • Book venues for AGM & Committee meetings
  • Prepare Committee/AGM agenda
  • Contact Patrons, Hon. Members and invite to AGM
  • Contact stallholders if appropriate

Treasurer

  • Prepare report/accounts for AGM.
  • Liaising with auditor and membership secretary.
  • Paying of invoices and expense claims.
  • Maintaining up-to date records of income and expenditure.
  • Budgeting.

Membership Secretary

  • Record name, email address and payment method of all current Members and send them to Information Officer.
  • Cross reference membership with ‘Members’ page on the ALAS website. 
  • Write a short report on membership numbers and how they have changed over the last 12 months etc. to be given to members at the AGM.

Information Officer

  • Disseminate CPD opportunities to members.
  • Leaflets – make sure there is enough of each one to take to the meetings/events.
  • Badges/Lanyards/Pens – take to meetings/events (if stock is Low contact the Honourable Secretary to order more).
  • Produce ‘News’ items for the ALAS website when necessary.

Social Media Officer

  • Publish ‘News’ items produced by the Information Officer.
  • Respond to any online enquiries via the website.
  • Stay up-to-date on new Lipspeaking courses.
  • Stay up-to date with current affairs on Twitter (@ALAS_Lips).
  • Stay up-to date with current affairs on Instagram (@lipspeakingwithsign).
