On Saturday 11th April, thousands of people gathered at City Lit, London for the annual Deaf Day – a vibrant and inspiring celebration of the Deaf community.
The Association of Lipspeakers with Additional Sign (ALAS) was proud to host a stall on the day, supported by a fantastic team. Qualified Lipspeakers Mandy, Lisa and Hazel were joined by Lianne and Tiger, who are currently training as student Lipspeakers.
The event was a huge success, with many visitors stopping by to learn more about lipspeaking. We were delighted to answer a wide range of thoughtful questions and to meet several people interested in training to become Lipspeakers in the future.
ALAS is proud to be the only membership association supporting professional Lipspeakers, regardless of British Sign Language qualifications. We are the go-to association for Lipspeakers across the UK, providing support, community, and professional connection for both qualified and student practitioners.
We warmly welcome student Lipspeakers to join ALAS, with membership available for just £15 per year.
A big thank you to everyone who came to speak with us and made the day so special. We’re already looking forward to Deaf Day 2027!
